There are 14 types of residence permits and you need to find the one that is right for you and apply for it. In Turkey, foreigners usually make their applications on this type by choosing the Tourism residence permit.

What are the conditions for a Short Term Residence Permit?

*Applying for one of the 14 types of short term residence permits.

*Have the necessary health insurance.

*It should not be one of the foreigners who will not be allowed to enter Turkey.These people are:

a) Passport, passport substitute, visa or residence or work permit those who have obtained these documents or permits fraudulently or are found to be forged
b) At least sixty days after the expiry of the visa, visa exemption or residence permit those who do not have a temporary passport or passport substitute document.
c) Passport with a validity of at least sixty days longer than the visa period requested, or those who do not have a document that replaces a passport
d) Those who are banned from entering Turkey
e) Those deemed inconvenient in terms of public order or public security
f) Those who carry one of the diseases that are considered as a threat to public health
g) Extradition of criminals in accordance with the agreements to which the Republic of Turkey is a party. those who are accused or convicted of the main crime or crimes
l) Those who do not have valid health insurance covering the period of stay
m) Purpose of entry to, transit through Turkey or stay in Turkey for justifiable reasons. those who can’t stand
n) Those who do not have sufficient and regular financial means during their stay

*Having the financial means necessary for the period to be lived in Turkey

*To have a valid passport with a validity period of at least 60 days longer than the residence permit period to be applied for.

*To be able to give address information in Turkey. If you are staying at the hotel, a document of stay from the hotel, if you are staying in a rental, a notarized lease contract, if you are staying in your own house, a copy of the deed is required.

NOTE: The terms listed here are common terms. Whichever of the 14 existing short-term residence permits you apply for, these common conditions must be met for all of them. In addition, special conditions may be required for the condition you put forward in the application.

Example: For scientific research, which is considered among the short-term residence permits, the common conditions sold above must be met for the residence permit, and the scientific research permit documents must also be in the file.

How to Obtain a Short Term Residence Permit?

Persons must apply to the provincial immigration authorities for a residence permit before the expiration of their visa period through the e-residency appointment system and receive an e-residency appointment. After the application, you will be given a residence permit application form and the appointment day and place will be written on this form. With this form, you must go to the Immigration Administration and submit your documents.

On the appointment day, they must go to the appointment place in person with their short-term residence permit documents. On the appointment day, the documents are delivered to the provincial immigration administration by the foreigner or his/her lawyer and the decision of the administration for the short-term residence permit is started to be expected.

In How Many Days Are Short Term Residence Permit Applications Concluded?

The provincial immigration administration is visited on the appointment day and the documents are delivered. Applications are finalized within 90 days after the documents are submitted.

However, this period is the official period announced by the provincial immigration administration(Göç İdaresi) and varies from province to province.

Currently, according to our experience, residence permits applied from the province of Istanbul are concluded in 1 months.

For how many years can a Short Term Residence Permit be obtained?

As a rule, a maximum of two(2) years is given, and in practice one(1) year is given. Namely;

According to the YUKK (Foreigners and International Protection Law), short term residence permits can be issued for a maximum of 2 years each time, but in practice, provincial immigration administrations do not issue short term residence permits for more than 1 year.

In addition, it is stated in the YUKK implementation regulation that short-term residence permits can be issued for a maximum of one year each time.

Exceptions:
1- 5-year short-term residence permit can be issued for people who will invest in Turkey and citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
2-For those who will attend a Turkish course, a short-term residence permit can be applied for at most two times.
3- Persons who have completed their university education in Turkey can apply for a short-term residence permit at most once.

Documents Required for Short Term Residence Permit

1- Residence permit application form (the form you filled in when making an appointment)
2- Passport copy. The page with the identity information, the page with the photo and the pages that are processed about the visa entry and exit information.
3- 4 biometric photos (taken within the last 6 months and have a white background)
4- Receipts of payment of residence fee and card fee. It can be paid at https://intvrg.gib.gov.tr/gocborc.jsp. To pay, you can use the application number/tahakkuk number written on the application form after applying for a residence permit.

5- Health insurance policy It must be signed and stamped. Health insurance must be at least as long as the desired residence period.
6- Document showing the place of stay.
If you are staying at a hotel, you need hotel registration document,
if you are staying in your own flat, a copy of the title deed,
if you are living in rented, with a notarized copy of the rental agreement

Types of short-term residence permits are listed below. Foreigners who will apply for a short-term residence permit have to apply for one of the following short-term permits according to their conditions.

Who are the foreigners who can apply for a short-term residence permit?

1-Foreigners Coming to Turkey for Scientific Research
2-Foreigners who have a home in Turkey.
3-Foreigners who will establish a commercial connection or business;
4-Foreigners who will participate in the vocational training program
5-Those who come to the country within the framework of international agreements or foreigners who will come for education or similar purposes within the framework of erasmus programs
6-Foreigners coming for tourism purposes
7-Foreigners coming for treatment
8-Foreigners who are required to stay in Turkey with a judicial or administrative decision or upon their request.
9-Foreigners who will apply for a short-term residence permit after the removal of the family residence permit requirement
10-Foreigners who will attend a course in Turkey to learn Turkish
11-Foreigners who will participate in education, research and courses in Turkey with the scholarship of their own state
12-Foreigners who graduated from university in Turkey.
13-Those who will not work in Turkey but will invest in the amount and areas to be determined by the state, and their spouses and children will be able to apply for a residence permit.
14-For the citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a residence permit is issued for a maximum of five years.

Important note: In our country, short-term residence permit is generally applied for tourism purposes. However, there are 14 forms of application that can apply for a short-term residence permit. If the person’s conditions do not meet one of these 14 conditions, then he can apply from the tourism residence permit section. In addition, this situation is stated in Article 28 of the YUKK regulation.

YUKK regulation, Article 28 – (10) “… Residence permit requests other than the short-term residence permit application types listed are considered as requests for tourism purposes.”

Abstract: The person can apply for a short-term residence permit by choosing one of the reasons listed above, or if one of these reasons does not meet the person, in this case, he or she must apply by choosing the “tourism” residence permit section.
